The Quran says in Verse 113 of Surah Al-Baqarah: “The Jews accuse the Christians of having no basis for their religion and the Christians accuse the Jews of having no basis for their religion, even though both sides read the Scripture. The ignorant ones say the same thing. God will issue His decree about their dispute on the Day of Judgment.”
So despite having divine books that can show the way to them on these issues, they make remarks that originate from their biases, prejudices, and obstinacies. And this is strange.
The Quran says, “The ignorant ones say the same thing”, referring to ignorant unbelievers. That is to say, the people of the book and the ignorant ones say one thing. This verse introduces ignorance as the root cause of prejudice because ignorant people restrict their mind to their little environment and do not recognize anything else. They continue to believe what they have believed since childhood, even though it is filled with unfounded and superstitious ideas, and reject everything else.
God says at the end of this verses that he will “issue His decree about their dispute on the Day of Judgment.”
Not only do these people think they are the only ones who are guided, but they also believe that paradise is theirs alone.
